From florist to SEO strategist

Hi! I’m Clare

There was a time when I ran my own successful wedding and event floral design studio, Smith & Lily Floral Design. At the time, I was living on the west coast of America (I'm now back home in Stockport, in the north west of England), creating flowers for weddings, brand events and all kinds of celebrations.

Flowers were my passion. Being trusted with such an important part of someone's wedding or special event was a real privilege. Marketing, on the other hand? That definitely wasn't my favourite part of running a business.

I'm not entirely sure when that changed.

It started when I became curious about SEO and wanted to understand how it could help people actually find my business online. My studio was based at home, but within a one-mile radius there were five other florists all competing for the same weddings and events. I knew I had to find a way to stand out.

So I taught myself SEO.

I learned the technical side, kept up with industry changes and spent countless hours figuring out what Google was really looking for. Before long, I was hooked.

The more I learned, the better my website performed. My studio began outranking much larger florist shops (there were five within one mile of my at-home flower studio) climbing to the top of page one of Google for the searches that mattered most.

But the biggest change wasn't just the rankings.

I started attracting exactly the kind of clients I wanted to work with, couples and clients with larger budgets, people who appreciated my style and businesses looking for the kind of floral design I genuinely loved creating. By being really clear about what I offered and who I wanted to work with, my website started doing the hard work for me.

That was the moment I realised just how powerful SEO could be.

A woman with short dark hair, glasses, and a blue dress is standing at a dining table with a floral centerpiece, glasses, and place settings, in a warmly lit room with wood-paneled walls and a fireplace.
A long banquet table decorated with pink, white, and peach flowers, candles, and place settings, set for a formal event or wedding reception in a rustic venue.

For a while I ran both businesses side by side, combining flowers with SEO, until I made the decision to move back to the UK. That's when I decided to focus entirely on helping other florists grow their businesses online.

Today, I'm just as passionate about SEO as I ever was about flowers.

I love getting to know the businesses I work with, understanding what makes them different and helping them become more visible online. My approach is collaborative, supportive and I try to keep things jargon-free. I'll always explain things in plain English, without the technical marketing speak, so you know exactly what's happening and why.

I'm not a big SEO agency.

I'm someone who's been exactly where you are. I understand the florist industry. I know how important every enquiry is, how competitive your local area can be and how much your business means to you.

When we work together, I'll be genuinely invested in your success, and I'll still be cheering you on long after our project is finished.

"I came to Clare thinking I just needed some help with SEOs and image alt text, but in addition to that, she also suggested a number of new and creative ways to help get more traffic to my site. She did a SEO audit and set up templates for me to follow, walked me through everything, and made sure I was able to easily manage the rest myself. Thanks to Clare, I’m already receiving more inquiries from potential clients, and am finally excited about the way my website looks and functions! 10/10, highly recommend!"
